Get 22 (12 Boys & 10 Girls) Kids Into Track & Field

Obsidian Middle SchoolRedmond, OR ~ Obsidian Middle school is a public middle school. 59% of our students are qualified for free and reduced meals based on their family’s income levels. Croy was a student who could not afford to play basketball.  Having funds available for students like Croy have allowed him to take advantage of opportunities that he would otherwise miss out on. Croy says playing basketball has been a great way for him to meet new friends. He’s noticed that he’s in a lot better shape after competing in basketball and track. Croy has also seen an improvement in his grades since last semester partly because of the opportunity to complete his homework and get extra help from teachers during Bring It.

School Sports are used as an avenue to encourage self discipline, school spirit, team work, and a sense of belonging. We also require students involved in school sports to get an extra dose of homework help or speacialized tutoring before our sports practices.  We have seen an improvement in both grades and homework completion from our athletes. These programs have been very beneficial to the physical and mental well-being of our students, and a source of pride for our community.
