“The Backyard Tri — or, to give it its full title, the Scripps Ranch Memorial Day Triathlon — is now five years old and has been raising money for ACTIVEx Charity Challenge every year,” says Jeremy Spitzberg, an ambitious San Diegan who has been running (and swimming and biking) a triathlon out of his own home for the past five years.
Designed to bring friends together while helping out a cause, the Scripps Ranch Memorial Day Triathlon has been increasingly successful every year.
Jeremy says he gets everyone up bright and early to swim 500 meters in the community pool, bike 12 miles (with a steep climb thrown in for good measure), and then finish with a 5K run. With free bagels and beer, what’s not to love about this Memorial Day tradition?!
This event is proof the value of active families and good influences as, a few years into the event, the racers’ kids asked to participate! Thanks to Jeremy’s community, the event raised $500 for KIDS in the GAME! Well done and thank you for your support!
